COATHANGER

This is really sad and I'm reluctant to post it but it's a thought that's been nagging at me since practically 2nd grade. In order to look ridiculously, incredibly, off the charts, uniquely, fashionably eccentrically chic.. do you just have to be anorexic skinny? I mean, I see a stick figure in something that looks crazy awesome....she has that "I'm so not trying to be cool but just can't help it" look while her normal sized counterpart would look downright tacky in it. What is it about being rail thin that makes the clothes look right? Or is it just youth? Either way, they won't last forever so better work on that crazy, eccentric, glamorous, fabulous personality of yours because that actually can be around forever.

  1. it sucks but it's sort of true. Although my tune is changing as I watch Gabourey Sidibe, the star of "Precious," work the red carpet lately - she just SHINES!!! It's just fabulous to see a woman with SUCH a different body type look so happy and confident with herself and the gorgeous dresses her stylist has found for her.

  3. why i am embarrassed to admit this I watched Oprah the other day with Jessica Simpson on it (double embarrassing) BUT they were talking about how beauty around the world is really how a culture defines it (and the examples are obviously extreme depending on where you are)- we all think this b/c that is what everyone has told us looks good. All the clothes we buy we see on ultra skinny models so it doesn't look the way we expect it to in someone normal size

  5. 'coathanger' is exactly why. the super skinny runway look started in italy before the day of fashion magazines and why???? because when a fuller figured woman went down the runway, all the buyers were focused on her beauty and not the clothes. solution, get women who don't look like women (no breasts, no hips). now the buyers were focused on the garments and not the model. so reason stands that when we see an emaciated woman on the street, we notice her clothes immediately rather than her face, breasts or bottom. and we say to ourselves, "wow, those jeans are cool!"
